Toprotype is the Cape Cod graphic design studio of Rob Johnson. My creativity and work ethic is backed by a solid marketing and publishing foundation. I got my start at the Boston agency, Cabot Advertising working on accounts like Fidelity Investments, NYNEX, and Prime Computer. As design director for Reed Elsevier’s national consumer title, SAIL magazine and later, for the start-up Motley Fool Monthly, I was able to immerse myself in the publishing end of the business. I currently art direct two lifestyle consumer publications, Charleston Style & Design and Dallas Style & Design.
I have enjoyed working with local and national clients including Arcadia Publishing, Berrett-Koehler Publishers, The Motley Fool, North Atlantic Books, McGraw-Hill, and W.W. Norton. I have also collaborated with local marketing firms on accounts such as Beneteau, Cummins Marine, and Orient Express. My design experience covers a wide range from consumer advertising and packaging to publication design, book cover design and corporate ID. My work has been cited for excellence in Print’s Design annual and the Bookbinder’s Guild of New York. I am a graduate of the Massachusetts College of Art with a BFA in graphic design.
